Hi Everyone, I hope all are well and that you continue to stay healthy. I am sending home a homework booklet for the students to keep up their studies over the break. It contains some spelling and Math. The math we will only have time to quickly review when we are back in class in April. If your child has any questions or concerns, please write a note on the paperwork so that I can review it later. We will be presenting our Book Reports when we return as well. I have attached the checklist for the book report in case any students misplace their copy. Have a wonderful and restful holiday. Mrs. Moss Paper bag book report
I items are in the bag to help retell the story: You may draw only 2 of these pictures to be your items. 1. Item 1 is about the main character 2. Item 2 is about the main setting 3. Item 3 is about a problem, crisis or event in the story 4. Item 4 is about the solution or ending to the story The outside front cover of the bag should have your name, the author of the book and the illustrator. The picture should relate to an event or picture from the book. The right side of the bag should have characters drawn from the book. It should also have descriptions for them. The left side of the bag should include a picture of the setting, It needs to also include the time (past, present or future), place and context (what we need to understand or accept to follow the story line - this could be magic, space travel, imaginary friends etc.) The left side of the bag includes the problem or resolution. This should be a paragraph explaining the main problem in the story and how this problem was resolved. The back side is your summary of the main events in chronological order. Stick to the main ideas and avoid getting side tracked by small details. Be sure to include the beginning, the middle and the end. Describe the items in your bag that you have included. Each item should have a purpose of why you included it and not something else. What does the item mean to the main character or the story line? Please practice speaking about your book report. You should be able to talk about the items in your bag using only cue cards as references. We will begin presentations on March 21st.

Test questions will be fill in the blank, multiple choice and short answer. Monday we celebrate Orange shirt day in Canada. Students are asked to wear their orange shirt to help promote awareness about the Indian residential school system and the impact that system had on Indigenous communities for more than a century in Canada.
Coming home tonight is the corrected Math quiz. The students worked really hard and their effort shows. I have broken the Math concepts into smaller chunks this term. As such, we will have another Math Quiz this Friday on concepts of Rounding to the nearest 10, 100, and 1000. There will also be some numbers to write given the word. Ex. One and nine tenths = 1.9

Mrs. Moss So glad you're in my class!!! Dear Parents, I would like to welcome you back to an exciting new year in grade 5. I hope you all had a wonderful and restful summer. This is my 6th year at Holy Redeemer and my 20th year of teaching. I am looking forward to a productive partnership to ensure your child can achieve their highest potential. I recognize that in order to be successful in school, children need support from both home and school. I ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she: 1) Attends school daily and arrives on time. 2) Completes weekly homework assignments. 3) Shares school experiences with you so you follow their learning journey. 4) Knows that appropriate behaviour is expected at all times. 5) Takes care of personal belongings and technology. 6) Continues to take risks in their learning. I look forward to meeting you on our School Parent Night on Wednesday September 11th at 6:00pm - 7:00pm. The first week of school will consist of many “get to know you” activities while I get to know the students and they get to know me. I will be teaching grade 5 Math, English, Religion and Family Life in the morning. In the afternoon I will be teaching grade 5 Science, Physical Education, Health, Art and Drama. Thank you again for your continued support! Please note: *** If you have chosen Mercury, Venus, Earth, or Mars: you are required to add many more content, photos, and captions for full marks. You still need the same number of slides, so you should replace slides that do not apply to your planet (ex."Rings") with more content, pictures with captions of your planet. *** If you are assigned Pluto: you are required to replace pages that do not apply to your planet with a definition of a dwarf planet and examples of other dwarf planets. Check here for more information. *** Why?*** Students researching gas giant planets have more work to do. They have to write about more moons and rings!
