We had a wonderful first week! Students are getting into the swing of things and we have started getting to know each other. This week we will continue with our "All About Me" booklets and presenting them to the class.
We have started working on Numeration and place value in Math. Don't forget to sign up for Pizza and Milk orders. The Student Activity fee is due as well on line. Please see the school website or log into: https://ocsb.schoolcashonline.com/ I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing summer! I am really excited to be back in the class and teaching junior students this year. Some of my students are in grade 5 and some in grade 6 in the afternoon. We have been working on getting to know each other activities and having fun at the same time.
If you have any questions about paperwork being sent home this week, please feel free to contact me at the school. Our meet the teacher night is Thursday September 20th. You will find me in room 108. Homework for the morning class will begin next week. Homework will always be sent home on Monday and is to be returned by the Friday. If the week is shortened, there will not be any homework sent home. Please let me know if your child finds the homework too difficult or time consuming. It is meant as an extra practise of skills already being taught in class during the week. Enjoy the remainder of your week. Thank you to all the parents for their patience and understanding as we continue to build our school yard. Great skipping on Friday. I am so glad that all of the Grade 5 students participated at the same time. The grade 5 students will be having a cumulative Math test this Thursday June 21st on Probability. A review booklet that was done in class that will be going home tonight to study for the test. Students will continue to work on their Probability game boards in class. A continuation of poetry, grammar and literary devices will be the focus for the remainder of the term. Track and Field has been postponed until Tuesday June 19th. We will be moving on to Algebra next week. Just a reminder to bring in the Jump Rope for Heart pledge forms. We hope to have fantastic weather jumping this Friday afternoon. Students are reminded to bring a water bottle, sunscreen and a hat or sunglasses.
Happy Mother's Day! I hope all the Mother's had a wonderful weekend. Just a reminder to parents that this Thursday May 17th we will be at Algonquin College for our tour. We will be covering a lot of walking so please ensure your child is wearing comfortable shoes. A special thanks to the parents that will be joining us. As this is a short week due to the Professional Development Day on Friday there will not be any homework sent home. The next Writing activity this month has a focus on Persuasive Writing. Students are to pick their topic and develop their arguments. In Math we are continuing to cover Fractions which includes ordering and comparing, adding, subtracting, improper and mixed fractions, equivalent as well as changing fractions into decimals. We will have a Math Test on May 30th. This afternoon we had a visit by our Superintendent, Mr. D'Amico. He saw our cool CAD was in full action. Please let your son or daughter continue to learn on the website https://RoomSketcher.com. I was so impressed with the detail that went into designing the rooms. Way to go, Grade 5's.
Just a reminder that this Friday the 13th, we will be having a culminating test on area and perimeter. Students will need to be able to find the area of a regular shape, an irregular shape, a shape with a missing piece, convert from mm up to km with and without decimals.
We will also be having our weekly Spelling test. Good luck! We will be having a Math test on Friday March 9th. A review "time" sheet went home today which will cover parts of the test.
Areas to note are 24 hour time, elapsed time, changing time from analogue to digital and vice versa, drawing hands on a clock, and amounts of time ie., 60 min= 1hour. The math homework sheet has time review on both sides. good luck! |
